About Therapy in Brief

Online psychological support that focuses on clarity, context, and workable change.

Who am I

My name is Miguel Salazar. I came to psychotherapy out of a desire to facilitate and see meaningful change in people’s quality of life.

During my training as a therapist, I completed a PhD in social neuroscience. My research focused on how context shapes perception, behavior, and decision-making.

That background continues to influence how I think about therapy. Rather than seeing distress as something isolated inside an individual, I am interested in how environments, relationships, expectations, and structures interact.

Therapy, for me, is less about fixing a person and more about finding the conditions in which desirable change becomes possible.

What this work is about

Therapy in Brief is an online practice shaped by brief and systemic approaches to psychotherapy. The focus is on understanding how situations, patterns, relationships, and practical constraints shape people’s experience.

Rather than treating distress as something to endlessly analyze or fix inside an individual, this work looks at how life is organized and what kinds of changes might make it more workable.

Sessions are collaborative and exploratory. They are not about giving advice, pushing insight, or rushing decisions.

How I tend to work

My work is informed by solution focused, systemic, narrative, and strategic traditions in psychotherapy. These approaches share an interest in context, patterns, and change that is grounded in everyday life.

This often means paying attention to what is happening now, what has already been tried, what feels unsustainable, and where there might be room for small but meaningful shifts.

You do not need to arrive with a clear problem statement or a plan. Hesitation, mixed feelings, and uncertainty are common starting points.

A note on pace and “brief” work

“Brief” does not mean rushed or superficial. It refers to working with intention, boundaries, and a focus on movement rather than open ended exploration.

Some people meet for a short period around a specific situation. Others work over longer stretches of time. The pace and length of the work are shaped collaboratively, not predetermined.

The idea is to have all the sessions necessary and not a session more. It usually takes between 3 to 10 sessions for change to be noticeable. After that, we can evaluate if we need to continue to work together.
